Wolfskill "96" 2014 GSM
« Back to Reds
John Wolfskill, an early explorer and settler to Northern California, left a lasting legacy on American viticulture. In 1842 on a trip into the California territory, he swam his horse along with 96-head of cattle across the Carquinez Straits on his way to his new home in what is today Northern Solano and Southern Yolo Counties. This herd of 96 would become the cattle brand of the Wolfskill Ranch known simply as "96." Along with cattle, Wolfskill brought grape vines planting them along the banks of Putah Creek in what he described as;
“Four leagues of the finest land in the world.”
By planting the first grapes in what is today Solano and Yolo Counties, John Wolfskill paved the way for the rich viticultural history of the future State of California.
This wine was crafted to honor John Wolfskill and the contributions he made to California viticulture and agriculture.
We selected the very best lots of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre fruit from 2013 and created the Wolfskill "96" blend. The wine was aged in new and used French & Eastern European oak barrels for 42 months before bottling. The wine has aged gracefully due to the extensive oak aging as well as the bottle aging.
